Trappist Monastery is run by monks that follow the rule of St. Benedict, which describes the ideals and values of monastic life with strict observance to stability, fidelity, and obedience. The Order take its name from La Trappe Abbey in the French province of Normandy. The Order is a monastic institute wholly ordered to contemplation.
The monks lead a monastic way of life in solitude and silence, in assiduous prayer, and joyful penitence. They are best known for the extreme austerity that characterizes their discipline thus rendering to the Divine Majesty a service that is at once humble and noble. They earn a living by selling island souvenirs, fruit jams, candies, piyaya and bread available in a shop found on the monastery ground. As what you would expect a religious place should be, the monastery is very serene, ideal for religious retreat and spiritual renewal.
“ The compound is very serene and well-managed. Perfect for those who are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Some areas are not opened to the public but you may visit the chapel and the souvenir shop. Their jams are a must-try!”
